First Cold of the Season

Well, that's no fun. After being off to a great start of workouts, I came down with a cold. Not enough to be serious but just enough to make me feel crummy, warrant rest, and fall out of the routine of working out again. Two steps forward, one step back...

The most interesting part is how the cold commenced. After feeling very hyper, I zipped around on Torch, flying up hills tirelessly around Rancho Santa Fe on an impromptu afternoon 30-miler. I came home only because the sun was setting. I felt fabulous. The sniffles started almost immediately after my shower. Strange. No sore throat. Nothing. Just a fabulous bike ride, and wham! A cold.

Oh, well. I feel better. Time to start again.

That's happened to me before. Weird, huh? Hope you feel better soon!

30 mile bike ride and just starting back? I don't get up to 30 miles until two months into training. Your body is telling you, "wo nellie! too much too soon!) Or I'm just a big sissy. That's possible.

SUCKS! I hate colds!! Sounds like an awesome ride too.

You were probably having so much fun on your ride you just didn't notice you were sick until you got done. I find often when I am sick, when I exercise I feel better and think I am getting better, then I get done and still feel kind of crappy.

Feel better!

sore throat is not a lot of fun its just uncomfortable and difficult to swallow.

usually, i would take the Nim Jiom Cough Syrup (www.geocities.jp/ninjiom_hong_kong/index_e.htm ) which has a thick consistency formulation. it coats the throat and includes herbs that are particularly good for that application.

i hope it works on you as well.

I'm just over my first cold in like 2+ years! Not sure where it came from either, just fine one morning and by the end of the day-slap! One week in the head, one week in the chest!
It was during the peak fall colors of WI and I, unlike you, did not take any rest breaks!
But it's over and time to move on!
Good luck with the workouts!

Colds blow my mind. Sometimes they feel like they are coming for a week before they finally arrive and other times they strike so freaking fast and hard that you don't have time to even think before you are laid out on your back.

Lots of C and rest and you'll be out there in no time.

Colds do suck. When I feel enough sick to miss a cardio workout thats when I do weights and core. I may not be really feeling great but find the cold doesn't get worse or linger as a results of weights / core like it does if try to run or ride when I have a cold.

Keep at it. Richard (www.blaznfast.com)
