That broad brush left some bruises...lolol :...OUCH! That broad brush left some bruises...lolol :D

Psychologically, dropping your partner and riding off all the time is a habitual application of being a poor winner. In both instances the winner presses his advantage far beyond any point of reason.

It's like the football team that is up 65-0 with 2 minutes left, but keeps the first string in the game to run up the score and humiliate their opponent. It’s poor sportsmanship.

When it happened to me, I used it as motivation, got very serious about my training, and then rode off and left my X-partner on every ride for 6 weeks until he stopped riding with me. At no point did he say "OK, lesson learned. That sucks." Tough choices to make there.

You did a lot of things right. First and foremost, you rode your ride. You rode beyond your glycogen stores and into your fat-burning zone. You rode long enough to find your discomfort threshold when everything hurts and starts to bug you. (planning any changes to shoes, shorts, saddle, handlebars ?) You controlled your emotional state well and found some joy in the ride.

I will be very interested to know what happens on your next long ride. If at all possible, ride the same ride again this weekend. My bet is your body will have already responded to the longer ride very nicely. If so, you will be amazed at how much easier it will be, and may want to ride the full 100 at Solvang. If not, you will be more than sufficiently recovered for the 50 miler.

http://www.johnforester.com/Articles/Cycling/Physiology.htm

PS: Those 2 Solvang Century climbs are only Cat 4. http://www.tourofcalifornia.org/2008/03/solvang-century.htmlGrey Beardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02238917041257429804noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11239428.post-26208157961055739452009-03-02T21:11:00.000-08:002009-03-02T21:11:00.000-08:00Good for you for listening to your body!
