You learn something new everyday.

By the way I also believe one occasionally needs workouts in Zone 5 too. I believe this helps to increase your lactate threshold.qcmierhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01993355080112850236noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11239428.post-1156168173537771242006-08-21T06:49:00.000-07:002006-08-21T06:49:00.000-07:00I agree with the responses, FBZ doesn't work, the ...I agree with the responses, FBZ doesn't work, the harder/longer you train, the more you burn. You still burn fat on high intensity work, in fact you burn it quicker, however you're also burning glycogen.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11239428.post-1156165975897093122006-08-21T06:12:00.000-07:002006-08-21T06:12:00.000-07:00In Michael Thurmond's book, he says that you have ...In Michael Thurmond's book, he says that you have to workout for 1/2 hour a day, after the 1/2 hr it takes to get into the fat burning zone. And not to push it, long, and slow walking/jogging is the best. And I've seen what he does to transform peoples bodies.Fizzgighttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12086526805778452531noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11239428.post-1156156214223282972006-08-21T03:30:00.000-07:002006-08-21T03:30:00.000-07:00Great post! It works and this translates across all HR zones.

Yes, intervals / speed work etc all work but should be on a solid foundation of slow aerobic mileage.

Also- the slow stuff doesn't hurt as much! ;-)Mikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15074871956216549830noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11239428.post-1155956901624829552006-08-18T20:08:00.000-07:002006-08-18T20:08:00.000-07:00Lately I've had right hamstring and sciatic pain a...Lately I've had right hamstring and sciatic pain and have lost a minute a mile on my running pace and have actually lost weight. I wonder if I stumbled into my fat burning zone without knowing it. I've always read that training slow makes you slow though.JeffMhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16336934310658984170noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11239428.post-1155929828705929742006-08-18T12:37:00.000-07:002006-08-18T12:37:00.000-07:00Another note is that to burn fat, the body needs a...Another note is that to burn fat, the body needs a bit of glycogen. It is impossible to burn 100% fat. There is a always a mix. When someone hits the wall (aka bonk), that's when they run out of glycogen.

For shorter courses (olympic tri and under), ppl can still manage. But for 1/2 IM and up, it will be a long long day.

What is interesting to note is that by training in the aerobic zone, we 'slowly' become more efficient and thus become faster.

The only catch is that it takes a long time (years) for the body to adapt to become super efficient at burning fat.Cliffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03227378544813320248noreply@blogger.com
